In 2009, Air France flight 447 which took off from Rio de Janeiro to Paris, crashed within 3 minutes 30 seconds after it was airborne. Pilots on the aircraft got conflicting air speeds in the minutes leading up to the crash, as stated by the interim reports. Aviation experts still have no clue as to why pilots responded to the stall pulling the nose up instead of pushing it down to recover. All 228 people on board died in the Airbus A330. The pilots lost contact with air traffic controllers while flying across an area of the Atlantic Ocean known for constant bands of severe turbulence. Air crash investigators at the Paris-based BEA (France’s Bureau of Investigation and Analysis) have been working on the theory that the speed sensors could have been malfunctioned because of ice at high altitude. After the incident, Air France has replaced the pilots on its Airbus fleet with a newer model. The report said that the stall warning sounded twice in a row.
