Northwest Orient Airlines Flight 2501 was a DC-4 prop liner operating its daily transcontinental service between New York City and Seattle. It disappeared on the night of 23 June 1950. The flight was carrying 55 passengers and 3 crew members. The loss of all 58 on board made it the deadliest commercial airliner accident in American history. The Flight 2501 was known, if not seen, entering a squall line. The plane’s wreckage wasn’t discovered and the cause of crash remained unknown. A local historian claimed in 2008 that many of the human remains from the accident washed ashore in the 1950s.
