Tiger Line Flight 739
Tiger Line Flight 739 disappeared on 16 March 1962 over the Western Pacific Ocean. The plane was transporting 93 US soldiers and 3 South Vietnamese from Travis Air Force Base, California to Saigon, Vietnam. The flight lost its contact with the control tower. The pilots never issued a distress call. About 1,300 people who went on a military search never found a trace of it. A person from Libya claimed to have seen an “intensely luminous” light in the sky. Hence, search mission was carried out even at night. Secretary of the Army, Elvis Stahr told newspapers that they hoped the people on board are safe and maximum effort was being made to discover it. After four days of search, Army authorities told newspapers that although the chance of finding survivors was doubtful, every effort would be made as long as there is any hope at all. This airliner’s disappearance prompted one of the largest air and sea searches in the history of the Pacific.
