The atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki happened during World War II in 1945. These were two cities in Japan that got hit by powerful bombs dropped from airplanes. The bombs caused immense destruction, instantly killing tens of thousands of people and destroying buildings. Many more people died later because of injuries and radiation sickness.

Some people argue that dropping the atomic bombs was necessary to end the war quickly and save lives. Others think there could have been different ways to make Japan surrender without hurting so many civilians. After the bombings, countries around the world started working together to control nuclear weapons and make sure they’re not used in wars again.

Even though many years have passed since the bombings, they are still remembered as tragic events that changed the world. Survivors of the bombings, called hibakusha, share their stories to promote peace and prevent similar tragedies from happening in the future. The bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki remind us of the terrible consequences of war and the importance of finding peaceful solutions to conflicts.
