15 moments that shook the planet
WEST AFRICA EBOLA OUTBREAK (2014-2016)
It was the worst Ebola outbreak ever known. It started in Guinea and quickly spread to Sierra Leone and Liberia, hitting cities hard. Over two years, Ebola took the lives of more than 11,000 people, which is about 40% of those who got sick.
People all over the world were shocked by how many people were dying and how fast it was spreading. Even countries like the United States and Europe were worried about Ebola cases popping up. So, many countries worked together to help the affected areas.
Because of how dangerous Ebola is, scientists started working hard on vaccines and treatments. Some of these are now being used to fight Ebola outbreaks in places like the Democratic Republic of Congo.
