The lighthouse is situated on the Anastasia Island and is one of the most haunted sites in Florida. Witnesses have confessed seeing Dr. Allan Ballard who during his life vowed to never leave the lighthouse. The scent of peter Rasmussen’s cigar is also detected by visitors around the lighthouse. Rasmussen was a strict and meticulous keeper of the lighthouse who was always seen enjoying his cigar. Rasmussen may not be the only cigar smoking spirit at the lighthouse. Some say that the cigar smoke, footsteps on the tower stairs, and the figure spotted at the top of the lighthouse could be that of Joseph Andrea, a keeper that died in the 1850’s when he fell from painting the previous 1824 tower. The most sighted ghosts are of two little girls who are often heard laughing around in the tower late at night. These two girls were the daughters of pity, who was hired for the renovation of the lighthouse. These girls drowned and died while being climbed up in the cart, ultimately sliding down from hill into the bay.
