Speed record over 1 mile: 763 mph

ThrustSSC, which stands for Thrust SuperSonic Car, is the fastest non-production car ever made. It reached an incredible speed of 763 mph (1,228 km/h), making it the first land vehicle to break the sound barrier.

This historic achievement took place on October 15, 1997, in the Black Rock Desert, Nevada. Behind the wheel was Wing Commander Andy Green, who is a highly skilled pilot in the Royal Air Force.

The car was powered by two Rolls-Royce Spey turbofan engines, generating a massive 102,000 brake horsepower (bhp) altogether. These engines were originally used in British F-4 Phantom II jet fighters.
